Innovations in Data Center Design- What is Hot Aisle/Cold Aisle Design?November 2011One of the biggest concerns of a Data Center Manager is to make sure the equipment doesn't overheat. When a server overheats, several serious reactions take place which are usually irreversible. The heat generated from multiple servers is significant, and once the temperature around the server node enters the 30-35 degrees Celcius range and stays that way for longer than a few minutes, the first thing to blow is the Central Processing Unit (CPU). This means a complete meltdown for your entire rack. While this is the most obvious repercussion of not maintaining a chilled ambient air system, some of the repercussions of having a server overheat are not discovered for several months. Even if you replace the delicate CPU in the rack, the memory, motherboard, and power supply were all exposed to such extreme heat that the equipment is weakened and will inevitably fail much sooner down the road. As technology advances in the data center, it is not space that is required, it is more power. With more power comes more heat and a need for an advanced cooling infrastructure. TELEHOUSE America Attends Streaming Media West 2011November 2011On November 7th and 8th TELEHOUSE America was present at Streaming Media West a conference and exhibition focused on the full online video world. Everything from content creation and management, to monetization and distribution was discussed among attendees and a variety of speakers from companies such as Microsoft and Adobe, Facebook, Comcast. Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and other technology supporting organizations such as hardware, software and encoding entities, made up a large portion of the guests. TELEHOUSE was able to show high-level individuals from this industry how our secure 42 global data centers with supporting network and scalable IT services solutions could be an asset to their unique business. Overall, this was a great experience for TELEHOUSE! We were able to educate quite a few different media-related companies, while also learning more about their needs and future goals. Facebook to build Data Center in Lulea, SwedenNovember 2011Have you ever wondered where Facebook stores all of your profiles, pictures, and statuses? With the opening of its new data center in Northern Sweden, your valuable data could now be in 'the deep-freeze'. Recently, Facebook announced the opening of a new facility located just 60 miles south of the Arctic Circle. This site was chosen in large part due to the frigid temps experienced year round - the colder it is outside, the easier it is to keep servers and network gear cool. How convenient! It also and takes less energy to do so. All 120MW of energy will be 100% derived from hydropower, which harnesses the force of moving water.
