With the opening of new premium data centers such as TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea in the heart of NYC's trendy Chelsea district, TELEHOUSE Hong Kong CCC, and TELEHOUSE Istanbul, we have extended further global capabilities to support our clients' data center and disaster recovery requirements. We also marked significant milestones with our New York International Internet Exchange (NYIIX), which doubled in traffic volume this year both in April and November. It now exceeds an impressive 200 Gbps.
200 Gigabits and Growing - NYIIX Reaches New Threshold of TrafficDecember 2011TELEHOUSE America is happy to report that its renowned public peering interconnection point, New York International Internet Exchange (NYIIX), has exceeded the 200Gbps (gigabits per second) max traffic volume threshold. In April, TELEHOUSE also made an announcement, which reported that NYIIX had reached the 100 gigabit milestone. This signified that NYIIX traffic had doubled in less than 18 short months, but now, at 200 GB, traffic has doubled again in just less than a year! This increase in traffic demonstrates TELEHOUSE's ability to attract both large ISP's to the exchange and showcases the huge benefits of peering to smaller companies looking to reduce costs. Currently, NYIIX is the biggest public Internet exchange in the New York Metro Market, and also in the top 10 of the world's largest peering points. Since its establishment in 1996, NYIIX has quickly become the most popular neutral exchange point in New York, consisting of 146 active peering members from all over the world. TELEHOUSE America's Customer Appreciation Holiday Party 2011December 2011On Thursday, Dec. 15, TELEHOUSE America celebrated the upcoming holidays at Chelsea Market's newest bar, The Tippler, only a block away from TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea. The hip restaurant/lounge was the ideal location for an intimate gathering of TELEHOUSE customers and partners. Guests were treated to h'orderves and beverages in a comfortable and stylish atmosphere perfect for networking. They were able to learn more about TELEHOUSE's services and newest facilities. They were also able to discuss what the year ahead has in store for TELEHOUSE America. 2011 was a big year for TELEHOUSE America, with the grand opening of TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea and the influx of carriers, including Abovenet, Cogent, KDDI, Level 3, Lightower, OCG, Sidera, Verizon, Voxel, XO Communications, and Time Warner Cable among others. Our New York International Internet Exchange (NYIIX) also surpassed 200 gigabits of Internet traffic and our Los Angeles International Internet Exchange (LAIIX) celebrated its ten-year anniversary. TELEHOUSE Docklands Enhances Green CommitmentDecember 2011TELEHOUSE London's Docklands data center is further enhancing its commitment to the environment by purchasing 100 percent renewable energy from the UK provider, SmartestEnergy. SmartestEnergy is the UK's leading purchaser and supplier of electricity from independent generators. The 100 percent renewable energy purchased by TELEHOUSE is generated by projects throughout the UK using a variety of sources including wind, solar, hydropower and anaerobic digestion. In February, TELEHOUSE London was awarded the Carbon Trust Standard, a certification that confirms it has measured, managed and reduced its carbon emissions across all operations. TELEHOUSE London has also made it known that they are committed to reducing it year-on-year. The move to renewable energy further strengthens TELEHOUSE London's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and providing a clean and environmentally friendly atmosphere. Survey Says...75% of European Businesses Will Never Recover Lost DataDecember 2011The importance of disaster recovery and back-up services takes on a whole new level with results emerging from the EMC European Disaster Recovery Survey 2011. According to the survey results, 75% of businesses in Europe will fail to recover lost data after computer crashes. The pan-European survey, commissioned by independent researchers Vanson Bourne, found that 54% of these businesses had either lost data or suffered downtime, or both, in the past year. More than 1,750 IT decision makers across Europe participated in the survey.
Why is the United Kingdom Ideal for Data Centers?December 2011Last month, Data Center Dynamics published an article, "Why The UK is Good for Data Centers." With four data centers located in the UK, TELEHOUSE knows the importance of this region. Since the deregulation in the mid 1990's, the UK has been in high demand due to its positioning on major fiber routes to mainland Europe. London is the largest data center market in the United Kingdom, with more than 40% of all European Tier I carrier neutral colocation facilities located within a 40km radius. Recently, however, the data center market has been steadily increasing outside of London, with new facilities popping up in Manchester, Newcastle, Cardiff and Norwich.
