WWExecs Turn Out in Force for BREAKFAST ON BROADWAY

Who Said People Don't Attend Summer Events?

On an August morning, executives from a variety of industry segments again turned out in force to attend BREAKFAST ON BROADWAY. Continuing the content delivery theme, Cogent Communications' Jim Bubeck, V.P. of On-Net Sales, gave a thorough talk and answered numerous questions on what carriers face when attempting to grow within the SMB segment, what kind of demands do SMBs place on a network, and how different carriers can cope with those demands as SMBs increase their bandwidth demands.

Bubeck used his own company, Cogent, to illustrate the points he touched on throughout the presentation, which were:
• The absolute necessity of extensive advance planning, innovation, and vision to set up an expansive network with the means to quickly and efficiently act in response to any variation in client and market needs.
• The advantages of building in highly sophisticated technical capabilities and efficiencies upfront, thereby enabling a carrier to quickly implement adjustments to meet higher bandwidth usage demands or rerouting to maintain uninterrupted service during planned and unplanned outages.
• The ability to provide dedicated bandwidth capacity to meet traffic needs and still not oversubscribe the network
• The relationship between investing capital upfront for sophisticated technology and a consistently positive ROI. For example, by investing from the start in equipment that provides true scalability, Cogent can meet sudden increases in user demand, while not negatively impacting operating costs, its ability to continue existing pricing, and the preservation of a positive ROI and market share growth.
• The need for high service levels that are consistent across the business segments
• The available technical developments to improve latency and bandwidth capability nationally and internationally and cope with today's highly dynamic market conditions.
• The variety of approaches to pricing for the various business tiers.

When asked about Cogent's ability to swiftly respond to the marketplace demands for bandwidth increases, yet still retain a low cost pricing structure, Bubeck commented, "Our system was built with high bandwidth usage by each client in mind. This along with the equipment that Cogent installed from the start, enables us to quickly react to the changing market and maintain our ROI."

WW Industry Waves
Baseball Waves ...Jim Bubeck, Cogent's VP of On-Net Sales and a native of 'Sweet Home Chicago' visited New York City for the first time, when he came to speak at our seminar. Jim is a die-hard Cubbies fan no longer, as he underwent a transformation while here. Tired of the Cubbies' ineptness, Bubeck is now a NY Yankees fan. (In what movie was "Sweet Home Chicago" sung and who did so.)

Birthday Waves congratulations to Wynne Ahern, Peggy McGovern, Kristine Pfeiffer, and Julie Wanzer, Keep rockin'.

Employee Waves...to Fred Cannone for his award from corporate parent, KDDI. Kudos Fred-meister. Hey Fred, we still want to know what the characters mean on the front of the envelope....And speaking of the TELEHOUSE team, we welcome Michael Cartelli to the facilities side of the house and Rich Pezza, and Robert Uhl to sales side.
